How the landed cost is calculated
The CIF landed cost of importing an EV from China is the sum of five components:
- FOB China — the ex-works/loaded price of the vehicle at the Chinese port.
- Ocean freight — RoRo or container shipping to your destination port, which varies by region.
- Marine insurance — typically ~1.1% of vehicle value.
- Import duty & taxes — set by your country; the biggest variable between markets.
- Port & clearance — terminal handling, customs brokerage and local charges.
