China's EV Exports Hit Record Highs in 2026 — What It Means for Importers

China is now, by a wide margin, the world's largest exporter of vehicles — and new-energy vehicles (NEVs) are the engine of that growth. Brands that barely existed a decade ago are shipping hundreds of thousands of electric cars a year to Latin America, the Middle East, Central Asia and beyond.
For importers, three things matter about this shift:
1. Scale is driving prices down
China's enormous domestic EV market lets manufacturers achieve economies of scale no other country can match. That shows up directly in your FOB price: a capable electric city car can leave a Chinese port for under $10,000, and a well-equipped electric SUV for $20,000–25,000.
2. The model choice is exploding
It's no longer just BYD. Xiaomi, NIO, Zeekr, XPeng, Leapmotor, GAC and others are all chasing export markets, which means more body styles, more price points and more powertrains — pure electric, plug-in hybrid and range-extender.
3. Left-hand drive is standard
Because China drives on the right, the standard build of almost every model is left-hand drive — a direct fit for most export markets with no conversion needed.
