Does the manufacturer warranty transfer when a Chinese EV is exported?
Short answer:
Factory warranties are written for the Chinese domestic market and don't automatically follow the car abroad — confirm export warranty coverage before ordering.
Chinese OEM warranties (typically 3-8 years on the vehicle and 8 years/unlimited-km on the battery pack) are registered against a China VIN and domestic service network — they don't transfer automatically to an overseas owner.
- New, export-spec units — some brands (BYD, MG, Chery) offer a separate export/overseas warranty administered through their regional distributor; ask us to confirm coverage for your destination before ordering.
- Used units bought from the domestic market — sold without a valid overseas warranty; treat any remaining China warranty as void once exported.
For markets with no official brand presence yet, budget for independent EV service and keep the battery/VIN certificates for any future resale.
