Can a Chinese EV be converted from left-hand drive to right-hand drive?
Short answer:
Full RHD conversion of a modern EV is rarely practical — it's simpler and safer to source a model that's factory-built in RHD for markets that need it.
Converting a modern EV from LHD to RHD means relocating the steering column, pedal box, dashboard and much of the wiring harness and ADAS sensor package — on a car this electronically integrated, it's a specialist, expensive job and can affect crash-safety certification.
- Our recommendation — for RHD markets, source a model the OEM already builds in factory RHD (several BYD, MG and GWM/Haval/Tank models have official RHD production for export), rather than converting an LHD unit.
- LHD markets — since China's domestic market is LHD, virtually every model on our site is already correct for LHD export with no conversion needed.
