What if my country has no homologation precedent for a Chinese EV model yet?

Short answer: A first-time filing takes longer and costs more than importing an already-approved model — but it's routine work for a homologation agent, and only needs doing once per model per country.

If nobody has yet registered a specific model in your country, the type-approval agency has no existing file to reference, so the first import needs a full homologation submission — technical drawings, safety and emissions test reports, and often a physical compliance inspection.

  • Cost & time — a first-time filing typically adds weeks to months and real cost versus a model with existing precedent; every import after the first one is fast and cheap since the approval already exists.
  • Lower-risk path — if timeline matters, choosing a model from a brand with an established export presence (BYD, MG, GWM) in your region avoids this entirely, since precedent usually already exists.

We can check with a local homologation agent whether your target model already has precedent in your country before you commit to an order.
