PHEV vs BEV — which is better for export markets?
Short answer: BEVs suit markets with charging and incentives; PHEVs and range-extenders suit markets with limited charging or long distances.
It depends on the destination:
- BEV (pure electric) — best where charging exists and incentives are strong (Israel, UAE, Chile, Colombia). Lowest running cost.
- PHEV (plug-in hybrid) — like the BYD Qin/Song PLUS DM-i, ideal where charging is still developing: ~1,000–1,200 km combined range with no range anxiety.
- EREV (range-extender) — like the Li L7, drives as an EV with a generator backup; popular for long distances in the Gulf.
